Context

A request-for-proposal platform for the energy sector. 

Petro Partner inc. is an American company headquartered in Fargo, North Dakota. They unite energy services making it easier for energy and services companies to work together. The goal was to create an end-to-end digital contract sourcing and management platform for oil and gas companies.

The oil and gas industry uses outdated and ineffective systems to both create and procure proposals.

This coupled with poor relationship management and slow RFP/bid turnaround can lead to lost revenue and exposure to commodity pricing fluctuations. With PetroPartner’s industry experience, we knew that we could work closely together to bring an innovative and disruptive platform to market.

Research & Analysis

Understanding the contract and contractor user types and processes, we drafted a low-fidelity prototype.

We held several stakeholder workshops to understand the request-for-proposal system in the oil and gas industry, and identify primary user needs.

We mapped out the user flows needed to accomplish the primary goals, and drafted low-fidelity wireframes in Balsamiq.

Solution

Energy companies should be able to find and retain compatible contractors based on project needs.

The solution designed enables energy companies (BP, Shell, etc.) to: 

  • Filter contractors with regards to operational scale and compatibility, greatly improving the efficiency of the proposal process. 
  • Communicate directly with key clients and decision makers via a contractor retention system.
  • Monitor proposals and the progress of contract implementation via a smart dashboard.

Working with a small development team, the designs were implemented quickly and efficiently, on time and budget.

Impact

The system reduces human error and makes more efficient use of resources by improving communication and transparency between client and contractor.

By improving communication and transparency between client and contractor, users of the PetroPartner platform can have a material impact on their bottom line.

The MVP successfully launched in early 2020 with positive feedback from beta users and stakeholders.
